Regatta Results from Last Week

Last week was a good one for the program, as two of the more popular events saw us do quite well. Week in Review

>> Monday, June 30, 2014

Lots happening at the BHYC Jr Sailing program! The first week saw our greenies, in their first few days of sailing, sail out of the basin already, while the Intermediates were hanging out on the flats like seasoned Merrick sailors. The Opti Bs were competing in big breeze with the A group, who are challenging themselves to get better in all types of wind. Our 420 group has a slew of new young talent just transitioning from Optis, while the lasers welcome a few new sailors to add to their experienced group.

This week we'll be competing in the first up bay Interclub series on Thursday at MYC. Good luck and go Bay Head!

Blustery Day 2

>> Tuesday, June 24, 2014

The second day of program brought a good breeze in the morning that freshened to heavy in the afternoon, a good challenge for all of our sailors! We worked on heavy wind trim and tactics, but finished a bit early, as a lot of boats were capsizing and having difficulty staying to weather. Everyone performed great!

Summer 2014 is almost here!

>> Wednesday, June 18, 2014

Welcome back everyone! We're all super excited for the summer to start and get back out on the water!

Some important things to think about and upcoming events as the BHYC Jr Sailing Program approaches:

  • Some of the coaches will host a "Rig-Day" this Saturday morning at 10am. This will help your sailors get their boat rigged and ready to go for the first day of program.
  • Parents Meeting this Sunday at 5pm in the Merrick Center.
  • The Juniors Kickoff BBQ is next Tuesday the 24th. There will be food, music, games!
  • Register your Intermediate, Opti Whit-Blue-Red, and 420 girls for the Powder Puff Regatta at MCYC ASAP! This event fills up quickly and closes out. Registration is online at his link.
  • Mid-Atlantic Junior Olympics at IHYC registration is online as well. This event is for experienced racers on the Merrick side of the program (no Greenies or Intermediates). This even is also the qualifier for Midget Eliminations this year (Optis must be in Gold fleet to qualify).
We've got a great group of coaches this year, and we're all looking forward to seeing you at the Parents meeting this coming Sunday.
