Bay Head YC has another successful venture down in Lavallette, coming in 1st and 2nd in the 420 class. Our Laser team also had a great day despite going there with some brand new Laser sailors, coming out with a winning 3-2 record. Congrats to all!
Read more...Last week was a good one for the program, as two of the more popular events saw us do quite well. Conditions couldn't have been better, and the kids performed well... not only sailing fast, but focusing on improving, having fun, andrepresenting the club on the water and ashore. We were the most consistent club on the podium, too! Here are some highlights:
Ironman Regatta at SAYC (scores aren't posted online yet)

Lots happening at the BHYC Jr Sailing program! The first week saw our greenies, in their first few days of sailing, sail out of the basin already, while the Intermediates were hanging out on the flats like seasoned Merrick sailors. The Opti Bs were competing in big breeze with the A group, who are challenging themselves to get better in all types of wind. Our 420 group has a slew of new young talent just transitioning from Optis, while the lasers welcome a few new sailors to add to their experienced group.
This week we'll be competing in the first up bay Interclub series on Thursday at MYC. Good luck and go Bay Head!
The second day of program brought a good breeze in the morning that freshened to heavy in the afternoon, a good challenge for all of our sailors! We worked on heavy wind trim and tactics, but finished a bit early, as a lot of boats were capsizing and having difficulty staying to weather. Everyone performed great!
We were super lucky to have such a beautiful day here at BHYC! Every group, from beginners to our most seasoned 420s, were out on the water today and having a great time. Here are some photos of our Greenies and Intermediates on their first day out...

The past week was the busiest, and hottest, of the summer, and BHYC junior sailors represented the club extremely well. Monday our 420s placed 2nd and Lasers 3rd in the LYC Team Race regatta, and Tuesday our Opti sailors dominated a very good field of 132 boats in the LYC Opti Regatta, placing 6 in the top 10, including the winner Alex Fasolo. Then we traveled Wednesday to MYC for the Opti Interclub, won by our own white fleeter Fritz Sellig and placing three in the top 10.
Besides our top finishers, we had a ton of sailors improving and having great regattas. While we could go on all day, some notables were Logan Houpt finishing 32nd out of 138 at LYC, his best regatta ever and having a great time. Congratulations also go out to our Intermediate sailors, who sailed on the big course for the first time at a travel regatta at the MYC Interclub!
Thursday our A Optis competed at MCYC for the Mid-Atlantic regional championship qualifier (known as Midgets), and while we didn't qualify we got to compete and practice against some great competition. Friday we sent six sailors to represent BHYC at the Barclay Cup Team Race regatta, one of the older trophies on the bay. Out of 12 teams both BHYC teams qualified for Gold. Our team of Alex Fasolo, Sarah Burn, and Sam Gavula earned 2nd place overall, and the team of Robbie O'Brien, Eloise Burn, and Caitlin Welch finished 5th overall.

Congratulations to Robbie O'Brien on winning todday's point races! George Sellig, wearing his crash ehlet and earning two bullets, came in second ahead of his brother Fritz on a tie break. Great racing everyone!

Hello Opti families,
Today we were able to get off three point races in good southerly breeze all the while dodging cells of weather marching north and east. That same weather kept us postponed in the afternoon and eventually led to abandoning further races, but the three morning races got us off to a good start for the summer!

Now is the time to register for the summer 2013 program! We have a fantastic staff of coaches lined up, and are looking forward to getting out on the water. Despite the damage from Sandy, we are planning a FULL summer of sailing and events, so sign up before the late-registration fee!

The BHYC gang with their fall coach Royce Weber at the Fall Series at Toms River YC. According to the sailors and their families, the fall series has been a ton of fun and all of the kids are racing well and representing BHYC admirably. Bay Head also had a good group of Opti sailors brave the wicked weather at the ACCs held in LEHYC a few weekends ago as well. Well done all!
